6 Ways to Invest in Your Health and Well-being

In what way is health different from wellbeing? Health, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) can be defined as “a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”.

On the other hand, wellbeing has been described as a generally positive state of being which entails satisfaction with one’s life, ability to handle stress effectively, a feeling of happiness, and finding meaning in one’s life.

Our health and wellbeing are crucial elements of who we are, and we must protect it at all costs. Here are ten ways by which we can invest in our health and wellbeing.

Sleep

It is recommended that we get at least 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night. Adequate sleep is essential for good concentration and memory; sleep is also the time when the body replenishes itself and prepares for the next day.

Inadequate sleep has been associated with poor attention and memory problems, obesity, increased risk for cardiovascular disease, and diabetes (type 2) and also weakened our immune system, making us more likely to contract common infections such as colds and flu.

Get Moving

Yes, move. The majority of people today spend most of their day motionless. Physical activity enhances blood flow and ensures that oxygen reaches all our cells.

There are various ways we can do this: take the stairs instead of the elevator, walk short distances instead of taking a cab, or place your phone on the other side of the room. Find different ways to move each day until it becomes routine.

Drink Water

We have all heard this a thousand times over. Hydration is important, adequate fluid intake helps to flush toxins from our bodies, nourishes our cells, aids our digestion, and cushions our joints.

It is recommended that you drink about half your body weight in ounces each day. Learn how to stay hydrated depending on your health needs. If you don’t like plain water, you may want to start drinking your own sparkling water instead of store-bought sodas. Should this be the case, get your own soda-making machine and find out where to get co2 refilled so that you can be sure you don’t run out of what you need to make the drink you enjoy.

Get Health Insurance

This is one of the best investments we can make in relation to our health. Health insurance holds numerous benefits for an individual. It gives you access to faster, high-quality treatment and ensures that you are prepared for any future illnesses or accidents.

Good Food

This is another important way to invest in your health. Eliminate or reduce processed foods, unhealthy fats, and refined carbs in your diet. They have been linked to cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. Replace them with whole grains, lean protein, natural sugars, and essential fibers that are beneficial to our health. Additionally, you may want to start drinking your own soda instead of store-bought sodas.

Try to eat organic foods, as well. Where possible, eat raw veggies and fruits or prepare your veggies by merely steaming as opposed to boiling away all the nutrients.

Health and wellbeing should always be at the top of your priorities list. Any investments we make in this area will continue to reap benefits for us, years down the line.

After all, if your health is in good condition when you are young, you are more likely to continue these good habits into your later life.
